The Niue Companies Act 2006 is now in full operation; companies in Niue and overseas can now register under this new legislation at a cost of NZD$150. It is very important for all business operators in Niue to register under this new business legal framework.

22/06/06 ASTORWOOD INVESTMENTS NZ LTD LANDED ON NIUE
The Niuean Government has this month entered into an exclusive agreement with the New Zealand based company Astorwood Investments NZ Ltd to initiate a broad-ranging programme of investments to be undertaken on Niue to be commencing shortly. Astorwood shall be working with the Government to manage funds and oversee development projects financed by the programme, which will include ventures in hospitality, tourism and fishing amongst others. The project will generate substantial funds injection for the economy of Niue and create attractive job opportunities for Niueans both on the Island and currently based overseas. 10/06/2006 MARINE DAY AT ULUVEHI ON MONDAY 5 JUNE
The Mutalau Village Council(MVC) organised the usual Marine Day at Uluvehi on Monday 5 June 2006. Heard and seen from reports and photos that apart from a good turnout, everyone caught lots of fish including the ones that got away last year. 05/06/06 POWER NOW RESTORED
The electricity supply in Niue is now back to normal, despite engineers having to attend to a few other cable faults on the southern side of the island. Niue is so thankful to New Zealand for this great help in restoring power.

04/06/06 POWER TO BE RESTORED SOON
The Hercules aircraft of the New Zealand Air Force have just brought to Niue one 5 tonne generator to help restore power to the island, after the fire last Monday evening destroyed part of the island’s only power station. Volunteer carpenters have been working around the clock to construct a new temporary shelter for the generators. Portable generators has been used to keep essential services in operation, these services includes the Niue Foou Hospital, Telecommunication, and the pumping of underground water to reservoir and distribution to taps in households.

02/06/06 NEW GENERATOR TO BOOST POWER
The New Zealand Air Force Hercules aircraft will be uplifting a 5 tonne power generator from Auckland to Niue to ease the power black out, after power in Niue was cut due to the fire at the Power Station in Tuila. The fire last Monday night at around 6 in the evening destroyed one generator, switch panel and connection related gears. Three engineers will also be on the same flight to assist with the connection and installation of the new generator.

03/05/06 7.8 STRENGTH QUAKE SHOOK NIUE
In the very early hours this morning at around 4.27am, Niue felt the effects of the 7.8 rating earthquake that hit Tonga, lasted for about 10-20 seconds. No damage or casualty reported. The tsunami warning issued in now also cancelled. Tsunamis did not pose direct danger to Niue because of Niue's unique geographical make-up, a raised coral island with the land is 20 to 60 metres above sea level.

01/04/06 NEW COMPANIES LAW PASSED
In the last sitting of the Niue Legislative Assembly, the new Companies Act 2006 was passed and come into force as law of Niue. This is a very complex piece of legislation which will help govern and manage the operation of companies in Niue just like in other countries. Niue have no company law before only a law for issuing business licences, with this law coming into force, the offshore company registration law will cease to operate at the end of 2006. 13/03/06 NIUE CHAMBER, INVESTNIUE IN AUCK ON PROMOTIONS
There is currently a team of businesses from Niue, attending a number of promotional events in Auckland. They are lead by the Niue Chamber of Commerce and InvestNiue. They have been promoting some of their products at the Pasifika Festival, they will also be at the Pacific Trade Expo that will be held today at the Telstra Pacific Events Centre in Manukau. The businesses includes Hinapoto Handcrafts, Charlie's Original Ebony and Masi's Handcrafts.
